The iron ring is one of the many remnants of a quay used by boats involved with activity associated with an old lime-kiln on the shore below the castle. Low evening sun suddenly burst through the rain clouds which frame the castle. I'm not sure whether this black and white version has the impact of the colour version in the Northumberland gallery elsewhere on this site.
